Rates of pay?

Seems like there is a division to me between those that understand running (and staying in) a business and those who don't.

If the business owner cant increase day rates because it is not financially viable to do so he wont/shouldn't. If he can increase it because for example you are so good it is increasing his production/turnover then he should.

Don't forget money is and will be tight for a long time to come. £500 for a weeks work is better than £150 for a day with the rest of the week sat at home.

For the record I pay a good climber £120/day and provide company t-shirt/fleece/saws/employees liability insurance/work/transport to site/job sheet/risk assessments/etc/etc/etc.

To be able to turn up in the morning and go home 5 - 8 hrs later with £120 is dream land/hr compared to what I am earning.

It's not £500 a week, the OP is s/e so he has to pay tax and NI and supply his climbing gear out of that. ok he gets a van or a lift to work.

Why would you run your own business if £120 a day is dream land ? go and work for someone else for a oner a day and save the stress.

It's not 500 on your pocket though is it. As was already said a couple of posts back. Equipment, tax etc comes out of that, and realistically you should be allowing yourself holiday pay out of your day rate...the true in your pocket figure is nearer £250

Exactly!! People on here know all the outgoings there are yet never take into account when talking about day rates on these threads... :001_rolleyes:

I often walk out of shops because their goods are just to cheap, in Tesco the other day I saw a 2 for 1 offer that was just ridiculous!!! (yeah right :001_rolleyes:)

Subbies are self employed, YOU set your rate!!

Do I moan to my customers that they are paying to little for me to remove their tree??????????

NO I set my rate and if they are not happy with it I don't get the job.

Same goes for employees really, but their rate is set at the time of taking the job or at a pay revue.

at the end of the day it all depends what your worth to him if you want more money ask for it if he doesnt give it you have to decide what options you have and take into account whether he could or couldnt replace you with some one equally as good for the same money.

There are so many different factors to take into account only you can decide but at the end of the day its rgular full time work and theres people living on a lot less

But that must mean your not worth more, I'm not being funny, but if you will work for that rate and if you don't others will, why would employers pay more???

I'm on more than the other climbers allready... as said lots will climb for 80-90 a day.

I climb for 120 a day sometimes more, and come accross all sorts. And then it gets to the point that you show people what you can do and they book in even more work in for the day! Sometimes more than safely possible, even when your going at it!

When your doing a hell of a lot of work and then comming down and chipping, cutting etc, clearing up as you should and as i do, Thats the point I KNOW IM WORTH MORE. ;)
