I am new to this forum, so Hi!

I need some help identifying this tree. It is a small broad leaf tree, probably council planted. The trunk is ~2m before branching off, total height 4-5m. The bark is rough light brown similar to that of an apple or pear. I have attached a photo of a twig with the fruit.

The fruit are very soft when ripe and have ~4 seeds. The flesh is red and sticky. The fruit is ~1cm in diameter.

Any ideas?

The closest i can get to it is a red jade crabapple tree, as the fruit branch off the same shoot as the fruit, similar to the Red Jad and other apple trees. But i have never come accross a crab apple with such small fruit.

The tree has quite a heavy crop so if it is a crab apple I would like to harvest it. So if there is anything toxic it could be confused with please suggest (I couldnt find anything).

I will try and remember to take some photos of the tree.

Thanks.

The fruit seem to match that of Cockspur hawthorn (other than these fruit do not have 'eyes' at the base), but there's no thorns on the branch. Bark could also match Cockspur hawthorn, but the leaves are not leathery.

I'll try and remember to photograph the tree. The bark is not like a cherry though.

Else I'll just have to wait untill it flowers next year.
