was saying to my wife tonight that i was kind of guiltiy that my mate didnt get back in touch to do what possibly was that job , on the other hand ? who knows what could happen

i did see a pic of the snapped stem , and heard a ladder was maybe invovled but i cant realy say thats true , maybe he was up the stem cutting from above not doing a proper cut and the stem has snapped at a weak point with the weight.

shame , i remeber being 23 and never even thought of trees being dangerous.

on another note made me think about a poplar with a nasty crack i was going to take down soon- think il push for a cherry picker..

Deeply tragic to lose such a young life.

If the picture in the mail is of the tree that did the deed, that's as good an example of a barber chair as you are likely to see.

looking at the pic, the split looks like water had been in there for sometime.

Nahhh that’s a barber chair pure and simple, there is no sign of a felling gob, looking at the terrain the tree was probably phototropic into the valley with a good amount of tension in it.

Someone has put a back cut in and either didn’t know enough to chase it through or couldn’t get the speed to chase it through
