I was at Honey Brothers today and had a look at their sample helmet.

I honestly think it's a superb design. The adjustment is simple and when you depress the flap at the back it feels like the harness turns into a cradle around the head. Super comfy.

The ear muffs are easy to locate and move but best of all is the ventilation.

It's clear to see even in a photo that fresh air will be drawn in under the rim of the helmet, due to the wide fit, at the same time the hot air around your head will exhaust through the vents in the top.

Whilst working, the head is usually tilted down slightly so these vents are perfectly positioned.

Compare this to the helmets we're used to and you'll see that the snug fit all round creates a conflict with fresh air struggling to travel in while the warm air tries to get out.

I realise that plenty of people criticise the aesthetics of the Protos but that doesn't interest me. I'm only interested in function. Because our job is already uncomfortable enough I'll do anything to make it easier regardless of how I look.

I can't wait to get mine!
