Fine and costs £11k

Thats pretty poor but will their insurance not chase them as a firm for the damages. i know they will pay out the employees insurance but would not the firm be persued by their insurers for their failings to maintain adequate training/ safe kit. The company is local to me, the owner is a very nice chap, works hard and is honest.

HSE mistakes aside like has been said there is no accounting for stupidity.

He employs a lot of school leavers which i think can be good as often they are shunned for their lack of experience. ( cant get it with out a job- vicous circle really).

The various trades he offers he runs as completely different businesses, just groups the together under the one name.

Prehaps if the word 'stupid' were replaced with 'nieve' the reason that the HSE managemnt regs require specific assessments for under 18 is because the ydont have the life experiance to.

I salute the chap for taking on school leavers, we have 1 chap age 16 nice guy but prone to get him self in a position where he needs moore experiaced help.

All part of growing and learning, education and experaince go hand in hand. i do hope the chap envolved makes a good recovery and is able to walk ok
