just wondering when is the best time to apply selective weed killer onto a lawn to remove docks , plantaine, buttercup etc.??

also which products comes recomended??

Be VERY selective about what products you use where roots of Dicots (trees) may be in the same rooting environment as your Monocot grasses.

 

I cant elaborate, because I can end up in all kinds of trouble, suffice to say, what doesnt kill grass tends to kill or make very sick anything of a dicot nature!

ok i hadnt thought of that as i thought it worked on contact like roundup, i will read up on it as id rather have weeds than dead trees!

Best applied in late spring when the weeds are growing will. Correctly applied at the advised dosage should not affect trees

Tony- this is a good subject for hortics to understand as they generally ignore trees when spraying.

All lawn weedkillers are systemmic so they should not affect the roots of trees. Unless the roots are surface or very close to surface. Is there any evidence that systemmic weedkiller affects tree roots. If so I would like to see it.

I thought their selectivity was based solely on the fact that the active ingredient 'rolled off' parallel veined monocots but tended to stick to dicot leaves and wasn't absorbed by roots.
