That's very sad, thoughts go out to her family & friends.

As you point out Rob, high profile location indeed.

There will be a very thorough investigation on this one.

Will be interesting to see what arrises over time as to the tree inpsection & risk zone management.

Kew has a very heavy footfall.

Apparently a Kiwi girl living over here.

Very sad!

Also I didn't think the winds were that high in west London, it will be very interesting to find out what happened. It also makes me think of when we dead wood trees to make them safe! One of our clients showed us a large branch from a plane tree, they couldn't understand why it had dropped, on closer inspection it was at the point of an old pruning point. Which goes back to that quote in Shigos book "once you care for a beast, you must care for it forever"

Moosie

On my Samsung Note - It's big, but it's good

Sad news... brings the fear of trees up on the agenda yet again...

A couple of years ago a lady was killed in the Botanical gardens in Gothenburg, Sweden. The accident occurred in high winds and was considered an accident due to high winds and therefore couldn't been avoided by the management.

I do hope a similar verdict will be announced for the sake of everyone affected, staff relatives and so on. Its easier to live with an accident than a case of negligence.

I heard this whilst driving today - well done Simon and the AA for getting in there quick and providing a response to a high profile tree issue.
