Need a chassis

Perhaps it's a fetish thing, wasting half a day and a chunk of cash, getting messy with waxoil for no good reason aint my idea of a good time.

I would waxoil as in my maybe wrong thought proccess its the cleanest its ever going to be especially inside rails where mud loves to sit damp and rot it. Not sure on your area but here living under a mile from council roads depot you can imagine how much salt is on my daily drive bit of road and i reckon a lovely looking galv chassis shining bright is a theif magnet, a nice layer of black wax tones it down a lot.

Hey i could well be an idiot and wasted a lot of cash over yrs but my 03 plate landy is lovely and clean underneath, no rust and no welding or advisorys and over 100,000 miles so far. :001_smile:

Yes but his is galv and won't need welding and you can tone down the galv look with a splash of paint if needed.

Paint won't wash off when you put the pressure washer near it but waxoil will and paint is way easier to apply.

With the cost of the new chassis and then 13 days to change is this not going to work out to be a VERY expensive job? Surely would have been cheaper to scrap it and put the money to a newer one.

It would have done if dad hadn't had a chat with the garage owner. We have been going to him since he started his business up so he has made us a special price of £150/day. But we supply the parts. He normally charges £40/hour but as its such a massive job he thinks he can be more leanient. The BMW is in for its MOT on Friday as well ha ha.

He can't be that busy if he's prepared to drop from £320 per day to £150 for 13 days. Agree with the others - 13 days is a long time to do a chassis swap, especially with two men and in a workshop.

I did mine myself in less days than that on the driveway.
