We got an iveco 2.7 tdi in our defender. makes a hell of a difference. tad black from exhaust when going up hills but surprises the other 110 drivers when we sail past them with the engine just coasting.

i know but a tdi will fit. or if its a second or third motor will it make a massive difference.

True, but you also need to change the diffs or it will be very low geared.

Not much appreciation for my 130 at the moment. Rear diff will be coming out next week for a rebuild! Bloody trucks. Gearbox stopped leaking so I checked the level, transfer box took just over a litre, bugger!

Never mind, she keeps on trucking.

Thats a salisbury diff isnt it? You will only need to shim up the bearings or replace at worst. I have had mine done a couple of times.....about £400 a pop:thumbup1:

Yep I have been quoted £400 so hope to stop the whining and slop in the drivetrain.

its running on 750s at the mo dosen t feel low geared. can get diff s cheap as so many discos being scrapped. Or if you can get them run it on 900s theres enough room

Diesel engines are slower revving, so it would be much lower geared than it is know with the higher revving petrol.

I take it you have ruled out everything else.....drive flanges, universal joint spiders in the props, transfer box, etc etc, as the rear diff is about the strongest part of the drivetrain in those.

(Hope i'm not telling you stuff you already know BTW?)
