Hi All,

I have a new problem with my 300tdi (up until now it's been ace). It's done about 200k miles and in the morning it smokes excessively for about 2 miles, then settled down and doesn't smoke much at all. Initially I thought it was valve stem seals, but as far as I can tell they aren't often an issue on these. So I tip the site inflow to the turbo of and it had a lot of oil in it. The turbo impeller has a fair bit of movement, so I'm thinking about replacing that's asap. But it could be oil coming from the breather that links into the air inflow pipe.

If it is coming from the breather anybody got any thoughts, or is the engine about to die? Do I replace the turbo? Tomorrow as soon as I get home I'll disconnect the site pipe from the turbo and see if it leaks any oil overnight (I assume occurs the turbo leaking, when it's running any oil will be sucked to the high pressure side).

Any body had similar problems?

Cheers Mark

Hi Jon,

I think so to now. Going to order one and replace it over the weekend. I wonder if I'll get more power?

I got that lorry, I'll pick it up when my o licence is issued. No photos yet, but I'll do a thread on it when things start to happen.

Cheers

Mark
