Today is the 2015 Miner's Gala! Or the "Big Meeting" as it is known. Once upon a time there used to be up to one Million people attending.Brass bands leave the surrounding Pit Villages and March down into Durham where they pass through the market place which xan take 4 or 5 hours......they congregate by the river on the racecourse. When i was young i remember seeing Arthur Scargill giving speeches there....A LOT of alcohol is drunk on this day...all the shops had there windows boarded up years ago and fighting was common place...it has become a little more civilised now. This year Grayson Perry is making a documentary on it which should be interesting for those who know who he is.............
