IT is different if you pass a trailer ttest this year you will have B+E next year if you pass the test it will be BE at present there is no weight limit on trailers so we can tow 4000kg trailer for example a defender rigged for air brakes. If you pass BE next year there will be a weigt limit of 3500kg on the rtrailer regardless.

That's how I read it, us oldies will no longer be able to tow trailers over 3.5 tonne, not that I ever have bar perhaps a bit of overloading.

 

I guess it's aimed at the under 7.5 tonne articulated units mostly.

 

Or have we misread the specifics?

It,s not retrospective.

The new rules will apply if you pass your test after that date

The new rules on towing with B category vehicles will make virtually no difference to anyone because all trailers over 3500 kgs plated MAM come under different rules in regards to their braking systems - such as needing air brakes

 

Those getting B+E after Jan 2013 will effectively be limited to a max total MAM weight of 7000 kgs or 7.0 tonnes

3.5 tonnes for the vehicle and 3.5 tonnes for the trailer

 

 

I'll bet no-one on here tows a trailer over 3500 kgs with a vehicle under 3500
