Anyone know about grants?

As a small firewood business just starting out, I wondered if anyone knows anything about EU grants or if the Forestry Comm have any assistances available for firewood businesses. It strikes me that there should surely be some sort of EU assistance available for renewables?

One thing i have learnt from trying to start businesses since i was 16 is dont expect any help, with anything! Money or information wise. The lack of interest and support i have had from so many government bodies (ie jobs for the boys) that are set up to help is mad. Dont get me started on the banks for financial help. And for grants they have spent all the money on fitting very inefficient solar panels to every house in the country to worry about helping out small businesses! Good luck with your venture

The downside with grants is you have to prove you have or have access to the full amount you need to purchase the item. Once the grant is approved and you have the offer letter you purchase the item, send proof showing the funds leaving your bank account and obtain receipt from the seller and then you can claim your 40% back!

Seems pointless giving a grant if you have to have the money in the first place!

Abolutely, seems their only aiming them at the bigger firms or farmers.

Try leader funding. Funding from eu for rural businesses. Lots of firewood/ forestry guys down here have got funding for things like tractors and trailers to processors and barns. The finding is delivered by a local panel of industry/ business experts.

For Scotland try here...

LEADER

You dohave to fillin some forms and have a business plan - the complexity of which depends on the amount you want. They will support up to 50% of the cost in most circumstances( at least down here for wood processing)

You don't get anything for nothingso there's some effort required in the apps and you will need to find the other half of the cash but it can be free money..... Remember that.
