% of quotes accepted

I never just give a verbal quote. It opens a can of worms if it's not written down with a copy for you and a copy for the customer. Also I write the customers address, phone number and e-mail addresse on the quote sheet too.

If you've looked at 30 or 40 jobs in the fortnight you'll loose track of where you are!

As per % of jobs accepted, don't you aim for 100%? I do, the more work we have on the better! Also the more work we get, the less our competitors get.

Meanwhile, back in the real World....

What's wrong with aiming to get 100% of the work you look at? I know it's never going to happen but you have to try. I wouldn't be happy if I only got 70% of the jobs I looked at. Far from it, it would mean I'm wasting 30% of my time on the jobs I look at.

If there going to get a pro to do the job, I would rather it be me!

That's the problem.

Quite often they're not, and are totally unwilling to pay pro prices.

If you end up making the same amount of money on 70% of the jobs you provide quotes for as you would if you had to lower the price to get 100%, then I'd rather work less, for the same money.

I would claim, that if you really aim for 100% acceptance rate, you would need to make certain that you always offer the lowest price (I guess at least half your customers obtain more than one quote). And that way you end up working your a*** off for very little money. Pointless, IMO, and naïve.

In the past I would say we had a success rate of 60/70%, recently much less, even with previous clients their getting other quotes, I haven't increased our prices for 2 yrs to try and retain a good number of customers but it seems people are really struggling at the moment and if they can save £20 then their off, I'm by no way expensive but there are individuals willing to do it for less.
