Land rover/pick up dilema

If deep down you want a landy, then a jap pickup will always feel like second best.

 

Plenty of people like the jap pickups but as a proper work horse there's little to match a decent landrover, especially a HD 110 pickup.

 

Using a defender for longer runs is no problem unless you're fairly tall or just used to driving cars. I used to put 25/30,000 a year on my old 130 and it was fine.

 

In my experience landrovers often get called unreliable because people fit cheap parts and wonder why they then break - I generally use genuine as I can mostly fit and forget.

 

For what you've described though, I'd say another van (though the 110 would be hard to pass up on if you can justify it to yourself).

Very true, or if nobody ever fitted silly lift kits etc on 5% off road and 95% road landies I think they would have a far better reliability reputation. :thumbup1:

I disagree it isn't helped by those parts you describe but I think the problems there to start with, I'm not sure what the problem is wether it's due to the workforce ethics, design etc but whatever it is there are problems there to start with

Unless you really need a Landry then I would consider one of your other options, I have a 130 crew cab tipper, it gets about 4 cube of chip in, tows my tracked chipper, carrys logs and tips, I have a big winch on it for pulling things over or out and on the rare occasion I get it stuck it pulls me out BUT it is heavy on fuel, sure things go wrong on it but mainly it's wear and tear as she gets some hammer, I have had a transit and this for me is the best tool. If your not gonna tow heavy loads then unless you can afford to run a Landry I would get a jap toy. :)
