Qualification dilemma

Hi

I have what I think is an unusual dilemma - I hope someone can help.

I have used a chainsaw professionally for years (and quite unprofessionally before that :blushing:) I have worked for two tree firms and would say that I am fairly experienced especially at felling and as a general groundsman. I did what I felt was a very thorough 4 day LANTRA course 11 years ago which included chainsaw maintenance, cross cutting and felling of small trees. 7 Years later I decided to do my NPTC CS38 and CS39 and become a climber. I did the courses and passed and climbed for around a year.

Here is the dilemma - Despite passing I was never issued with my CS39 certificate because the LANTRA course is apparently not recognised by NPTC which they told me after I had done the course and passed. So even though I am deemed competant to use a chainsaw up a tree I am not seen as compitant to use a chasinsaw on the ground and therefore also not up a tree - do we follow :confused1:

Whilst my previous employers were happy for me to climb just with the examiners pass paper (which I still have) I really need to be 'officially passed' as I have now started working for myself. I really dont want to pay out loads of money to reprove that I can do what I have been doing for years especially when the LANTRA course was expensive and in my opinion excellent.

Any suggestions greatly recieved

Thanks

Swanno

Find an assessor in your area to assess you, should only cost about £100 (i say only!). Just watch out for bad habits like not using chain break etc. I had a similar thing after I passed, didn't send off the slip within 6 months and had to retake cs39.

Thanks guys - that's a big help - I am more than happy to pay£100. Where do I find a list of assessors? Also feel free to post any more obvious bad habits. Is it general opinion that I will also have to redo the cs39 - I spoke to a college who said that if I could show evidence of a cs 30 then that would be ok to get my cs39
