Doing as asked in regards to contacting

To flip things round a bit,

Over the years I've had employers (not naming names on here), not give clear instructions on jobs, locations,, kit needed etc. You turn up to a job at last minute as a subby, then they have the cheek to make it out it's your fault you didn't know what's going on, becasue as a subby, lets face it, some think you are theirs to talk to how they like and expect you turn up with a full forestry set up, be hammered on hours and to know exactly what they want from you. I'm not saying we should expect ti turn up and have written instructions on what needs doing and when, but sometimes the employer is as guilty for expecting subbys to be at their beckon call regardless of the circumstances.

I cancelled a job a few months ago to subby for soemone who was desperate, turned up on the day to have the old, oh, the jobs off, did nobody call you to let you know? Oh, sorry sbout that, well there go's 250 quid from my earnings then, cheers!

I suppose what I'm saying is communiction only works when it's both ways, just my 2 peneth  (had to stick an emoticon in).

I also second that but not naming i turned up for a days work not being told what im doing but not wanting to sound to inexperienced git there thinking its just dragging cutting and chipping ended uo the whole day basically free climbing mass conifers with a top handle not complaining about the work but only got 40 quid for it didnt want to argue with as was really desprate for more days

Unfortunately there are some people on this site who think they are the dogs bollocks cause they have a few tree jobs and can talk "*llocks for a long time about ropes and carabiners and how good they are at doing basically nothing, but screwing Joe public with b*:llshit to get a few pounds , then insult new people coming into the industry with ads like " Fools Wanted " "Goffer wanted " on previous pages, makes you wonder who the administrators are or who they are allowing to advertise.... Southern Monkey Website !!!! Sort It

Seeing as there is a direct dig at me in Mr Hendersons post, re: "Gopher wanted", allow me to clarify. this was not at all derogatory to anyone. It was a specific request for someone without any Arb quals to come along and give me a hand for a day literally fetching and carrying things about site for me. Literally a "gopher". Due to health related issues, there are now certain things I struggle with, and having an extra pair of hands to take the load off myself now and again. But hey Mr Henderson, I don't expect that "gopher" to work for nothing, he actually got paid for his troubles too.
