Old truck failed it's MOT

Change the oil and fuel filter. It may be worth getting the injectors tested for dribbling. refurb injectors will be cheap £30 ea ? could give truck whole new lease of life and pay back will be quick. Injectors should be a service item every 70,000 miles. If truck is old and high miles may not be worth getting into fuel pump. If the engine does not breathe you are in with a chance. As has been said fuel treatment will help long term but short term problem will be worse.

does take a while to get through the system, and makes smoke worse than ever in my opinion..... but should clear

 

The smoke did seem to clear yesterday, i did about 40 miles going hard (well as hard as ya can go in a cabstar) but when the bloke in the test station put his foot on the peddle today it was like the black hole of Calcuta (sp) in the garage

Screw down the throttle cable so it cannot rev out fully, then unscrew after the test,

cardboard on the rad so it's red hot during the test, worked for the last 4 years on my Tranny.

I took my old Nissan Cabstar for it's MOT today and it failed on the emissions test. The guy in the garage said it could be one of two or more things. Injectors, fuel pump and the likes.

 

What should i look at first ? or should i just weigh it in

Our Lucida fails every year. Arrange a re-test with the garage and then cane it up and down the motorway for half an hour. Drive it straight in and test it and it will probably be OK. A change of oil, filter and air cleaner might give you an edge as well.
