US Tree failures during storms

Thoughts go to the many families affected by the recent spate of violent weather.

 

I've read that so far, 13 people have been reported to have died as a direct result of trees failing in the strong winds.

Well said. The weather can cause some very sad events..

We may moan about our weather, but we rarely get the kind of extreme weather that threatens life and limb.

Only just this minute finished watching it on the news. Looks horrendous. Thoughts go out to anyone and everyone involved or affected.

I believe we had 3 drowning deaths due to TS Debbie with in the last week here in Florida but maybe I missed some of the other fatalities else where in the USA?

The biggest problem we have over here with people getting killed is they will not move or leave dangerious situations. Common sence is nearly extinct with many people

I have encountered over the last 20 years. I do not understand why people refuse to listen and obey authorities when told leave or evacuate areas effected by bad weather

and the like. For some folks when your numbers called it is time to go, others still are in a big hurry to check out.

Call me curmudgeonly (or worse!) but I find all this "thoughts going out to them and their families" a bit well....stupid, people are being killed, starved, bombed to death in their thousands everywhere and as soon as someone posts some reference to it, there's a race to send out "thoughts to them and their loved ones" If it"s Arb related or like a tsunami or something ok fair enough.

This is an Arboricultural forum where people who manage, cut or nurture trees, come together to talk & share experiences with like minded souls.

 

The sad fatalities (a high percentage of them, according to reports) have been caused by 'trees'

 

These trees may have only been subject to severe wind loading as a primary reason for failure, but they may have been subject to 'managed' faults. Which ever it is, there's a whole raft of reasons to talk about the trees failing & being involved in the loss of life & property.

 

This thread has nothing to do with the general loss of life around the world, but does have a lot to do with those who are managing the trees that have fallen & those who may have been called apon to cut people out from underneath them.

 

I understand community to be a global thing, and here at Arbtalk (i believe) is the right place to think about those involved in tree related tragedy
