Hi,

They're generally pretty good work horses (ford as a make) with parts easy to come by and at relative low cost. If its not hanging with high hours then it'll probably be some useful chaep horsepower. For more info contact the ffa (ford and fordson association) for advice and the farmers trader for a good guide to prices.

Is it the 4wd version.

 

Remember something about the changeover between 7700 2wd to the 7800 4wd, it was the clutch didnt get upgraded by ford and they put a 2wd clutch on a 4wd heavier tractor. They used to chew the clutch up in no time, especially if it was used a lot.

 

Hours is the engine running. If it was used for heavy work would steal clear. But as it only works on hours it could have sat in a yard with the pto on all day.

So your good on a clutch then.

 

Check oils, colour etc. test drive is always good, engage pto and make sure it works and also turns off. Check links work, if overdrive fitted ensure that works, check for anything that feels wierd with gear selection. And the brakes works ok.

 

Also look for smoke on exhaust. I know they have an issue with build up and they can churn some pretty Nasty black carbon deposits out. Leave it running and see if any smoking stops.

Its not moved in quite a while, will ahve to have a word with the chap and get it started etc, like i say, 2wd, cab quite shoddy! 8000k hours, 103 hp, its dual power, flat deck cab, twin spools, pickup hitch, 3pl and pto etc.... rear tyres ok, fronts may be a bit perished. Would deffinetly need servicing, oils etc and a fresh battery.

 

What sort of money would it be worth? hard to say i know :(

We sold a 8300 not so long ago. Good condition and well looked after. Always serviced.

 

It went for 2300 in the nd after a bit of haggling. For yours I would haggle it if he wants more than 1500 if he can't get it started for whatever reason then it's always spares or repair non runner. If its not running when you view.

 

Would even go less than that.

It does run, so he says ;)

 

Think he has a problem with the tank being full of crud and blocking filters, apparently they have 2 tanks. Its been sat not doing any work for about 8-10 years not doing any work if not longer. will have been started and moved when necessary... or in the way....

 

He's had it started recently. Cab definetly needs work, tin worm in places... :thumbdown:
