Anyway back on Subject!!!!!!

I really can`t see the point in trying to use old clapped out WW2 machinery when there is gear out there for same sort of money and far better and comfortable to use. Driving one of these all day would put you in a nut house i think!!!

You can`t beat a nice cab and a heater or air con.

This sort of machine should be in a museum or the nettles IMO

To work with these so called museum pieces is something else, I know they dont have the modcons, but when you really want something to pull, these are the dogs dangly bits, and I cant think of anything modern thats equivalent.... tho of course someone else will:001_tongue:

dave the dog, is that the one near the auction mart in leyburn?

Sure is Penfold, 11.3 L , 150 hp. He has been in the wood game a while now, he went back to the yard and another gang had felled this beast (crosscut saws and axes) you can see the wedge markes at the top of the log. He worked for T Place and Sons at Northallerton and the photo was taken in 1957, and he thinks the Oak butt was felled in Fountains Abbey but he's not 100%

Despite all the crazy claims, the winch on a matador is only 15 t pull or thereabouts.

Where are you Dean? I noticed some are in N.Ireland patrol boots and some in DMS and puttee,s, whats the score there? What Regiment? Hope thats not too many questions for a Sunday morning.

That photo was up at Catterick, I was REME attched to 15 Sqn RCT it was taken in 1985 when puttees were being phased out, I used to hate them.

Heres another one from Cyprus when we did UN duties 1984, this was my recovery truck, I'm sure it was Leyland and had wooden floor boards in the cab with a plate in the cab saying " Do not exceed 25mph otherwise transmission damage will occur"

Petrol engined BTW, I'm hoping the scanned photo turns out ok.
