shipping container condensation

Anyone know of pernament solutions to tackle condensation in a shipping container, Iv read about these dampsticks but the company even admit they won't do for very damp atmospheres. Im thinking more along the alines of some kind of internal cladding....?

What does everyone else do. It s to keep machinery in so don't know whether its really beneficial to keep it in a container if its just going to be 'rained' on whilst inside it.

I was told kingspan on the roof? others have said to board it out, and maybe have the boards slightly sloping to one end

2 inch polystyrene and thin ply linning.

yep the polystyrene sounds a good idea, I would only need to do it on the ceiling I suppose.

I have an insulated container, which has the same problems as a normal steel one, but it takes longer for them to develop.

 

If you open the door on a nice dry sunny day, warm air that feels dry, rushes in. The next morning the dew is on the grass because the air cooled down and couldn't hold on to it anymore. In the container all your tools are dripping.

 

A dehumidifier will sort out the problem, and depending on what you store, you can dry out the contents of your container, it will take several opening s of the door to replace the moisture so it need not run the whole time.

 

In the absence of power to the container try to make sure it catches the evening sun, it will stay warm while the surroundings cool, the water will appear as dew on the grass then as the container cools it will be drawing in air that hasnt got that moisture with it.

 

None of this will help if you throw your wet gear in after a hard day, and disappear off to the pub:001_cool:

had 3 containers 20x8,1 was used for storing brand new kitchen units and worktops for 18 month or so never had a problem with condensation.all had a 6inch square hole in back rear upper corner with a vent siloconed on.also mine were not the single trip one so not so air tight

Ventilation is the key. Insulation will just hide the damp issues for a while.

We installed 4 louvred vents which improved things dramatically.
