I like the mini-log cabin....I'm looking to build a little cabin office in my garden soon but I'm not sure how practical the curved walls would be on this. Cool though!

Hi Dean

you could check out this group in the States. very interesting and one day I will eventually do their course. Log homes & log cabins from scratch - Don't buy kit log homes I found this site a few years ago via a google search whilst looking for info on log home building.

Funnily enough Mike I've been watching log home building vids for the first time today. It very tedious and repetitive work but can save you a huge amount of money

Dean, as Mike says, have a good look at the american site, most of the "log" homes sold in the uk are actually machined timber builds, and as such suffer from all the problems of shrinkage, building a "proper" log building using the butt and pin technique gets rid of most of these, yes you still get shrinkage, but its around the core on the pin, youve just got to keep on top of your chinking, no big gaps above windows and doors, this is the old fashioned way of doing it, and is a much better way of building
