I have noticed that recently on arbtalk there has been quite alot of freelance climbers/ arborists advertising looking for work, is this due to lack of work so company's are laying people off or is there lost of newbies coming through? I dunno if it's good or bad? Opinions please:)

I think its a bit of both although there seems a good number of jobs on arbjobs? I have been quiet this week but then a few phonecalls can turn it round. I pretty much just freelance and only do me own stuff through word of mouth. Problem is the area i work there seems to be a number of freelance climbers too.

to many climbers no jobs for them, every tom dick n harry is doing tree work ,or part time tree work, its a hard job to get into , thats life

Let me tell you that every Tom Dick and Harry is doing anything they can make a quid out of. It's not jsut tree work, it's the whole economy. Sign of the times I'm afraid. Things will get better but these are times to hold on tight.

I subbie climb and ground etc, but its quiet this week. When companies you work for are quiet you have to try find work elsewhere to keep going. I was going to post a thread about work but as you say there's a lot. But if you don't try you don't get.

Also you can tell who are newbies or who have been about for a bit.

I relocated, back to family and mrs, having been away working for a few years. I came back with a job but wasn't happy with the standards at the new place so decided to give it a go alone. Fair bit of work coming in but I could always have more!

I do only a small amount of treework these days but when I was full time April and May were always the quietiest months as pruning work dies down and the hedges haven't done much yet.
