Fishing pole method

The other fishing pole method is used for felling, its a way of setting a pull line without having to climb the tree.

Pick a branch high in the tree, the throwline should go over the branch as close to the stem as possible, run the pullrope over, it runs down the back of the tree, tie a running bow round the stem leaving enough room for your notch below. Walk the other end of the rope out from the tree and your ready to fell.

Oh, i wondered wtf u were talking about earlier, now i get ya mate! Not what i was talking about, but a handy little trick any how! I always set pull lines from the ground with a throwline, tie running bowline on ground and choke it. But with that method u do have to isolate a crotch. With ur method you don't - save some time on dense canopies!

I meant the rigging technique in my origional post - anyone else used it??

I use this a lot, but I tie off with a "timber hitch".

Was shown this many years ago by a timber merchant I used to climb for, his throw line had a large nut and bolt as a weight.

I use this way very very rarely when snatching tops out of very tall bending stems, I just put a few tape slings with crabs on to the lowering rope at different parts of the stem to spread the load. I think this is a bit like what your talking about? a bit like tensioning a bow, if you dont put the slings on. (only way i can think to put it!)hope this makes sense.
