Fomes fomentarius

I found a huge piece of fallen beech (nearly a whole tree) that i found a few weeks ago in the local woodland i used to frequent as a lad, it is full of fungi already and i can't wait to go back in the autumn to find out whats growing:thumbup:

 

i'll be making many trips back to this location over the next few years!

Having been frustrated by some vague photography & some question over the Id,

I have been & 'retreived' said bracket from the Poplar.

So...........here it is up close & personal & a confirmed first for our site of Fomes fomentarius on Poplar.

 

We know have it on;

 

4 Birch

2 Oak (1 petrea & 1 cerris)

3 Beech

 

& now Poplar

 

I've observed the majority of these (80 %) over the last 18 months or so.

Perhaps it's local range & host association is on an increase.

was talking with a colleague about this earlier today, hadn't seen any of these types of items though.
