A true black pop is Populus nigra subsp. 'betulifolia'

 

They are also known as the Manchester pop, and there's still quite a few left in Salford and surrounding areas, in Liverpool too, awesome trees when mature:thumbup:

Hi guys

Are their any additional regulations that apply to black poplar, as I was told it is one species that is covered by a census due to its scarciity?

Looks a hybrid not true black ?? I could be very wrong though! I agree with tony on the stumps.. But nice basic out line:)

How to ID it not what the latin name is you whopper.:001_smile:

 

 

Although if a true black pop is a manchester pop I can ID that one, they look horrible and scabby.
