Customer comes out and say I thought you were gonna cut that down to ground level !!

 

You say no we said 1" above ground level.

They don't agree

Unhappy customer

You have no back up

Get all your kit off and cut and clear up.

 

This did happen to me when I first started out and no written quote. You want the customer to be happy

So you get repeat work.

 

As I said before, each to their own, but don't take the other example too seriously, as it was probably a fictitious example

Hazzy, been there, done it mate, which is why I now spend more time on a quote and discuss small details.

 

T&C, I know what you mean about the 'rogues' you are talking about down here:sneaky2:, and if putting it in writing works for you fair play mate.

 

Word of mouth is my best source of income, and I realise that offers a certain amount of protection and confidence both ways.

My customers trust me to do whats right , if the are any issues through out the course of the contract, it is discussed, resolved, price may be negotiated, either more or less , depending on outcome , then commence with the job. Simples.

So your written quote says "stumps down to 4" from ground level", you pack up and clean up, the customer comes out and says they would like them a bit lower if possible. Would you refer to the quote and refuse to cut them lower or ask for more money????

No. Because they asked if they could be cut lower if pos. They knew what the quote was (4"). But asking is ok.

It's if there is an uncertainty.

I would cut them lower, no probs. Feel slightly miffed if they were 5ft across. Perhaps ask for a cup of tea and a biscuit for doing it

Exactly, so why waste ones all to sort life doing paper work that in actual fact changes nothing.

I also understand what you mean T&C, I have quite a few customers who have been well and truly conned in the past due to blag verbal quotes.

 

Obviously not all verbal quotes are from the mouths of conmen(I give plenty of verbal quotes on straight forward jobs) but not many conmen give a written letter headed quote.

 

Guys, just because you do something one way and it works for you doesnt mean that everyone else who doesnt do the same is a numpty.

I have not called anyone a cowboy in this thread or said that their way is wrong. Writing a quote is just my preffered way.

exactly.. Do what makes the client happy and what works best for you. People can drag things out on here
