I,ll be honest, I was,nt actually interested in this thread until you piped up. I thought look out! here comes JJG gotta be worth a listen. Everyone was saying the same sort of thing and agreeing with each other and along you come with a totally different outlook. Inspiring.

Nanny state is a term used by those who don't need such a thing. It's broad stroke stuff, which doesn't take into account those individuals who need protecting or nurturing. Sure, there are anecdotes which back such a philosophy, but there are many stories never told in the red tops of things working out for the best.

I say red tops, as I'm pretty sure that's where the `nanny state' idea comes from. I prefer to think of it as a responsible state. The original story was spun to be included in ammunition against responsible state power. I'm sure that there's another story too, one from the woodwork teachers side. Who now has asthma. It would be difficult to be judgmental about a man I have never met. We don't know the full story.
