I HAVE GOT BOTH BROKEN BOTH TOO

hello i got myself a silverline maul & axe from amazon and find the maul hard work and the resin that held the head on has broken up thus head fell off so using as a wedge now to split my firewood and as for the axe i,ve sharpened it up and find it better for log splitting but when i have used it as a wedge/splitter and used a sledge to hit the back of said axe its soft and has now begun to break up the resin too that holds the head on etc there naff to be honest very soft metal and fall to bits

so at the stage of no axe/maul and dont want to buy/wast anymore money on rubbish tools with moneys i hav,nt got etc

so whats the best way to go axe or maul what make n weight etc as i cant afford to wast anymore money on rubbish tools

I tried a couple of fibreglass mauls but then ended up breaking around the head. The best thing I have found is a hickory shaft splitting maul. This is the one I got:

Hasn't let me down yet!

Cheapest alternative, that is apart from cutting a handle from the hedge, is to buy a wooden sledge hammer handle and adapt it to fit your maul head, probably cost around a fiver or so. Just remember the cheaper the handle, the more likely it is to snap. If you can stretch to buying a hickory handle, then that may be best.

Yup, replacement handle is by far the cheapest option. I put a pickaxe handle on my splitting maul, needed a bit of work to make it fit but lasted ages.

Don't forget to get some little wedges to hold the head on tight.

i have ordered a new fiskars one now as for the 2 silverline things i will use as wedges i thinks best as there very soft metal and have started to squash out of shape like a chisel does when you whack it hard etc so will have no need to give the fiskars x27 a hard time
