what sort of strop you using? ive got one with approx a 2" ring around 3 inch from the saw that clips onto the tool caribina which the strop fixes onto the harness

use a screw gate tool bina with the screw always open

Just a basic length of rope with a krab on each end.

 

I'm just after a hook that will fix to my harness basically

I want something that will be solid and not flop about so I can just drop the saw onto it.

I use a caritool, and have only had to replace it once in two years.

Downside to using one: I once had the saw strop, my rope, my strop and a branch all in it at the same time, I couldn't move!

I started using a saw hook earlier this year and I love it. Its a regular carabiner with the whole gate surgically removed and permanently attached to the harness just behind / past the right D ring.

 

For security, the saw is attached to the regular tool ring on my harness with a standard bungee strop, but put on the opposite way round to normal. Ideally, cut that bungee ring off too. The carabiner attached to the saw drops into the hook one handed and without ever letting go of the saw handle. You don`t even have to look at it to `gun-sling` the saw back into action. It works on bigger saws too. No more dangling saws below your feet. If a lowering rope brushed past the climber, it could well catch the hook so I`m not recommending it. ( But it is sooo much easier to use.)

with the husky i use a small length of cord attached to the captive eye,as it wont go through the saw atachment point unlike the stihl.

It has a back plate on it and doesn’t wander about I couldn’t thread it onto the belt so I replaced the rivet at the top with an “allen” screw. It can now be dismantled to get it onto the belt. It’s on it’s third harness.

I have been looking for one of those for years but only ever seen them on tree buzz!nice one treequip
