If a farmer is delivering to customer's homes using the public highway, is it legal for them to use red diesel or should they be using white?

Well as i understand it this may not be so simple these days, Customs and Revenue i believe amended the act to allow for us farmers now travelling further with our machines between land parcels. We just rely on not getting caught and ultimately you can just make a declaration at the end of the month to them declaring the amount of red you have used outside the scope and just pay the extra road tax on top....... but have never done it!

Reversing a tractor up a domestic property and tipping logs is a bit obvious and is likely to attract the attention of the authorities opening a huge can of worms.

Just not worth the risk around here. Just use white then you dont have the argument. A lot of fastrac guys been done around here for hauling paper waste, chicken manure, plant hire , demolition soil, etc etc.

 

Question you have to ask is whether it is hire or reward if so then must be white.

Keep it local and if caught plead thick yokel. Then just make sure you're not caught again.

 

Nothing to stop non farmers buying an old tractor and running on red. That's what we do.
