When chunking down a stem with a big saw, position you strop low enough for you to take of two slabs, cut the first slab then begin the next cut, apply chain break and leave the saw in the cut while you throw the cut slab and move down the stem, so you don't have the saw trying to pull your harness down.

ever tried putting a normal step cut in the first log but leave it perched in place then cutting the second disc then pushing out both so they break on the floor. Less sawdust on the lawn and quick for the groundie to move the pieces out the way.

Cheers JJG nice to be of use, I'm trying to be good at the moment, and not get into all the arguments I get into. Already landed myself in it on this thread. There is obviously more than one type of gob.

I guess if we keep ourselves up the tree with this thread we can avoid clash with top tips.

Tip- take time when topping down, to position head and shoulders well above intended cut then all the sawdust doesn't go in yer face. Took me years to figure this out

When chogging down as the saw gets nearly all the way through, just before it starts to pinch push on the log with your free hand hand( yes I know) to lift it and allow the saw to cut all the way through. The log should stay in position if youve done it right then lifted and thrown or just pushed off. Saves on doing step cuts etc.

If you are doing step cuts while chogging then got through till it is about to start to pinch (about 90%+) then do the step cut. It is a lot easier to snap off then doing the overlap cuts somewhere in the middle.
