Alder burns very well , how can holly is classed the same as maple holly is awful maple is probably one of the best to burn and hornbeam and beach are easily as good as ash if not better . Birch is no where as good as cherry.

If i turned up to a customer with a mix of birch and holly they would not except it.:001_smile:

Please no one copy in that chart again I dont have a 37 in screen :biggrin: I dont like oak oin my wood burner. I find lime, beech and ash equally good when fully seasoned cant comment on the rest never burnt it.

yes, that whole chart is based on someones opinions rather than facts.

I know, these scientists nowadays... what do they know?!

They do some lab tests, calculate heat output per cord, take ease of spliting, time of drying and all other key factors into equation. And come up with these silly charts... My neighbour knows better for sure, because he was told by his neighbours auntie who tried various logs herself

That chart is not endorsed by anyone. It looks like something anyone of us could knock up in word if we had too much ash in stock and wait for a civil servant from an over staffed council office to cut and paste.
