It depends on the roads etc but there ok for short term work and never had an issue with council or police.

If unsure ask the people that look after that strech of road to be on the safe side.

Road closure is a separate issue.

Had a job a couple of months ago where a tree had fallen into the road, as it's a regular customer of mine (we do all the maintenance for her) she called us. Obviously all I had was hi vis as I didn't know it was going to happen. Please turned up and asked us what was going on... As soon as I suggested they might like to do the traffic management for us, they said they were very busy got the in the car and drove off sharpish. I was kind of annoyed because I think in those situations it would have been safer and easier for them to stick a car either side and done the donkey work.

You should have called the council out for backup if needed it also depends on your police force, some will help .

Stop go boards should have worked in that situation you state if signs were deployed and it wasn't a really busy route.

It was a one hour job. If I'd have called the council I'd have had to wait for them to turn up, and it would have been a headache. I'm not happy about standing there telling people if they can stop or go though. I'm just an ordinary member of the public, I dont see what right I have to dictate to people.

This is not definitive - but I'm sure I read this on this forum some time ago...

I believe that only the police have authority to stop a vehicle.

Thats why VOSA checks use policemen to pull you over then VOSA can do their stuff.

If a driver ignores you (and you are NOT a policeman in uniform) theres not much you can do.

No doubt that a numpty driving past the sign und under a limb being lowered deserves all he gets but in a court of law no doubt his 'no win no fee' legal bods would rip you to pieces. Whatever happened to common sense?

There must have been more than you doing the job ,you clearing one directing the traffic. The police must have been happy with what you were doing as well or they would have said something.

Its not very nice getting treated like dirt by motorists etc but that's the way some people are now.

And you were not dictating you were instructing people when it was safe to proceed.

OK fellas

I know this one

If you have a streetworks ticket then

You can stop traffic from both directions if necessary for a maximum of 2 minutes at a time

But there is no limit on how many times you can do this although I personally would judge it according to the snarl up that may ensue.

If the signs are manned then it is more likely they will be obeyed.

We all k now how daft car drivers can be
