I'm burning some ash from my own woodshed that has been cut and seasoned about 18 months that was a windfall in the summer. The sap must have been up as it's been in the woodshed a year stacked up and split some of the smaller bits that were only split in half are still hissing a bit where the bark is thick...

 

Comes to something when you're getting customers emailing saying that our wood is the best they've ever had but the stuff i'm burning at home is not dried out yet....

 

Better for business than the other way around though...

If you burn seasoned wood but damp from outside moisture, does that still tar up the chimney?

 

The quantity of moisture sitting on the external surface of a seasoned log is miniscule compared the water in a green log. Dont worry about it. It takes a long while for moisture to repenetrate a hardwood log. Dry Softwood however will absorb rainwater if left exposed.

Noticed how sappy the ash was when I chopped it up. My chain was thick with the stuff! Had to put it in a steam tank to get it off. Any tips on removing it easily on site)

 

If you chain is sharp just cutting any green timber other than Ash should bring it straight off.

 

Its the low water content of Ash that leads to some build up on the tooth, but its not "sap".
