True, wonder why they dont make a Vent ST?

 

Anyway most employers dont really know or care whether their employees should wear 397s or 12492s.

 

Maybe I'm missing something here but surely there is no choice for the employer but to provide helmets that conform to BS12492 for their climbers. First of all they are more fit for purpose as Jonsie defined in the standard description. We have to wear all round leg protection on our chainsaw pants when climbing so why is this any different? I agree that employers might not know which is why I previously asked the question - how do we get to know? Do changes in british standard requirements just trickle out through publications over time or do the HSE or other bodies have a strategy for getting the information through all levels?

i believe at the moment en 397 is all required by climbers

although i believe it is changing in the near future

in the erlier post jonesie made he said a chin strap strength of DN and i think he did his maths wrong.

 

also i had said that p think as ther petzle n stein are similar prace the petzle lid is stronger with a better cradel thicker plastic a slightly better buld/engeneering bits to it, but i do prefer the comfort of the stien (i keep calling it a KASK as they are the manufacturer who are based in italy)

It's not a stronger/thicker plastic, it's a different type of plastic. As for the cradle the Stein has a new concept of cradle with a much improved adjustment system which also caters for the smaller head. It also allows for better adjustment on the chin strap which in turn allows a much closer fitting earmuff

 

Also your helmet is the model which is rated to EN397 and not the newer version which is now rated to EN12492.

You're right about the size - my 11 year old boy now has one for on his bike, as he says its the coolest helmet ever (apparently it's sick man).

ITS HERE finally over 2 month wait but ive got it no thanks to honey bros i was gettin a bit miffed at the wait plus the fact theyve sent wrong colour helmet and visor but i aint gonna quibble bout that at least ive got it.

Nigel met me at the Safety Technology booth on Friday at TCIA Expo and gave me a helmet to use.

 

After wearing it for two days at Expo there are only a few things that I can comment on.

 

First, it is super comfortable to wear and adjust. The helmet doesn't need to be cranked down to stay in place. With just a snug fit it doesn't jiggle around on my head. For years I've worn an Ecrin and really like that helmet. Now there's competition.

 

The other thing that I can comment on is that it is one bad ass looking helmet! Flipping down the visor makes the climber look sharp!

 

Since our standards in the US are different I'm considering the helmet as a recreational use for the time being. Once the standards issued is ironed out I'll see, and hope, that it will be used every day.

 

Scratches on the face shield will be an issue. Here are a couple of possible solutions:

Oh, one downside...this helmet gave me worse 'helmet hair' than my Ecrin. So maybe it isn't quite so bad ass
