Barrel knot (half a double fishermans if you get my drift?) is my choice. Nice and compact.

 

Sometimes don't use a stopper if I'm in a dangerous mood.

Double fishermans (well, half of it) here - nice, quick, easy, compact and reliable. And it's nice to tie a stopper knot some way in from the end. I like a good long tail on mine.
