Not 100% sure what I'm asking hear but some one will know what I'm going on about.

How do you go about being registered with the council for tree work so you get called out when there are trees down on the road?

Just after getting called out by a customer who spoke to the police when the road by there house was closed, they said all the tree surgery companies were busy for the next 2 hours.

Councils usually have an approved contractor system, if your not on their list you got no hope. Give them a call to see hoe to register with them. The will ask to see your all your insurance and certificates if they are up on these things.

No they don’t, vicarious liability put an end to that quite some time ago

explain what vicarious liability means lol as I know of 2 councils in my area that use approved contractor lists

If they recommend someone and they make a cods of it the punter has legal redress with the council, at the very least it causes a poo storm for the LA.

Most have a list of contractors they use and will pass that on but they (ought to) have a huge caveat to protect themselves.

You're talking about lists of contractors made available to the general public.

To work for an LA you still need to get on the 'approved list', which basically means you have met the minimum requirements for being allowed to tender, doesn't mean you'll get work.

Additionally, these lists are issued as part of tender documents where relevant to main contractors / framework contractors to ensure they draw on a pool of appropriately qualified sub contractors when tendering for a larger project.

These lists aren't though, as you say, contractors recommended to employ by Joe Public.

If you want to get on one it should be fairly easy to find on the LA website how you apply to work for the council. Here is the gateway to WCC - Selling to the Council .

Simply google search your council name and 'sell to us' or 'supplying the council' or similar....
