opinions and feedback on the yale xtc ropes

easy old mill, know a few blokes who climb on prussics and they are damn fine climbers, know a few more who bought the lockjacks and didnt get on with em, and seeing as the lad is at college i doubt he'll be forking out for one just yet.....

 

xtc is bomber rope ....i did the same switched from years on XTC to Poison Ivy, dying to try out some imori,

seems like the most reasonable and cost efficient rope for a beginner.

I would advise to start as you mean to go on and think more about your friction system first. You probably won't be using a prussic loop, unless you're really stupid, and a Lockjack, Spiderjack or Unicender is the most energy efficient to use.

 

13mm rope doesn't work well in the first two, I don't know about Unicender.

 

Look at the rope threads that ran here this year to get all the info you need.

 

By the way, I climbed on XTC Fire for seven years on a Lockjack, great rope but now I've switched to Poison HiVee it's SO SO much better.

 

I don't have an issue with a lockjack on xtc. It's not as fast as on poison ivy I will agree but I still find it good to use.

 

IMO xtc ropes are some of the best out there.

I'll second that Rob XTC Rope is absolutely bomb proof . I had the same red xtc for over 6 years . To long maybe but after that it got used for small rigging and also pulled a few stumps out with it .

A nice rope,had many over the years but the last one I bought had one of those stupidly small eye splices, can just about get a karabiner through it.

 

I don't if you can specify eye splice sizes when ordering.

 

Forced me to learn how to splice though!

i know what you mean about splices now, some are stupidly small, and its only something ive seen recently from the ropes from HB, next time i order ill be stating a bit more detail about my splices, as they are too tight espcially for those who use larger krabs.

Yale got rid of the large solid and it's jacket and replaced it with those small eyes. Bit daft, but it does prevent cross loading!

What's wrong with tight eye splices? Of course if you can't fit a crab it's useless but apart from that?

Honey Brothers will splice any size eye on request complete with CE markings.
