Last tree's a beauty. Having just done my 34/35 on Scots Pines it gave me a bit to think about. How high is the base of the stem off the ground?

Posted

top is just at head height can reach all round with saw but not sure which way to make cut the root will go back down but the butt wants to go opposite way any suggestions?

dont want to make any bad suggestions and you take these with a pinch of salt,

i would try and get the tree on the ground more, as its still got its crown up in the air, get it down and then work towards the base where you can reach it properly.

As above, very difficult to give concrete advice here but it could be worth sticking a winch on the rootplate to tension the top side and make absolute certain that root plate goes back to where it came. That rootplate could easily kill you.

Is there anyone nearby that can get to you to have a look see and offer help?

There must be a couple nearby used to playing on the A82!

Can you get hold of a suitable winch to control the stem when you sever the rootplate?

I wouldn't dare touch the crown first. If the tree decides to sit up as the weight changes, you and a revving saw are going to do a superman act straight into the nearest morgue.

My best advice Sandy is to have someone with good experience of that kind of windblow to come have a look.

get the polesaw out ;)

Way to go,nibble the crown back after dismantling the upper limb, take small pieces & you will know when its getting ready to sit up again, pole saw job keeps it safe.:001_smile:
