shouldn't think so, and remember he can't drive anything over 7.5t wether its only tractor or coupled to trailer, empty or loaded, and certainly no 50k or fastrac or even boggied (turntable at front) trailers if i remember correctly! Really diddled me off when i was 16!!!

 

Sorry to be bearer of bad news, and i may not be 100% right as it was 13yrs ago i when i passed and now don't employ under 21's as we run some 50k kit and thats only over 21's. Seems unfair but i can see why!

if its classed as an ag machine then yes. although there are restrictions of wich im not familiar with.

i'm not sure but i think even if it ag then not cuz its 'high speed', i know this conflicts the 20mph ag rule but thats how my insurance said they'd cover the 50kph tractors with only over 21's rule..............

im not aware of the full law in this case although i bet the tractor he passed his test on could go faster than 20mph. can of worms we all know, best bet is to ring your local bodie on this or plead ignorant to 'well its an ag vehical' if the need ever arises, not that i condone such a thing though....

Very big can of worms, i'm only going on wwhat our insurance (nfu) has written in our policy to cover the newer 50kph tractors. Part of me wishes VOSA would open it up, clear up the issues so we all know where we are. Even though we do it, i don't really agree with our big tractors not passing some kind of MOT or standard to go that fast at that weight on the public road.......but then again perhaps i don't want them to..................

lad who works for me drove mine and our fastrac and 50k tractors at 16.... was stopped several times over last 3 yrs once by vosa and twice by traffic police and never once mentioned what he should and shouldnt be drivin...

he can drive any tractor upto 2.45 meters wide

he can only tow trailers that are single axle or double axle close coupled i.e. botex style suspension

he can't drive agricultural vehicles i.e. telehandlers loading shovels foragers combines sprayers as they are not tractors until 17 then he can only drive them upto 3.5 ton at 18 its 7.5ton and at 21 its unlimited. the max weight of a tractor and trailer loaded in this country regardless is 24 ton and max road speed bar fasttraks and unimogs is 20mph that is regardless of age driving licence or tractor

Yes if classed as a Agricultural/Forestry machine and you can go with him to help with learning. Start him on reversing trailers as soon as possible.

 

NFU insurance will cover this and if over 21 all drivers with permission and no increase on the cost.
