Messy day felling Leylandii. Mid-afternoon old dear from next door popped round for brew with customer also old dear (both widows in late 70's) and asked me could she have logs (3 foot lengths), she said she wanted them for her open fire. I asked slightly confused and feeling sorry for her would a friend or family member cut them up for her... no she replied I have a chainsaw and splitter (axe). Went next door and she had a B & D electirc chainsaw (sharp as you like) and big felling axe. She even filed her own saw!

I had a 90 yr old lady ask me for chestnut logs once, I said yes but are you sure you want chestnut?

She said- chestnut burns fine as long as you take the bark off.

Not tried it myself but wouldn't be surprised if she's right.
