star trek is here! Kepler 22b the new earth

So with 1 light year being about 5,878,625,373,183 miles (6 billion or so) and Kepler22b being 600million light years away, thats only 35,271,752,239,098miles

So if we could travel at the speed of light which is exactly 299,792,458 metres a second or about 186,000miles a second then it would only take 189633076ish seconds or roughly just over 6 years to get there:thumbup:

If one sets up a laser powered by the sun its beam can push a sail on a space ship, it will gradually increase in its push till the velocity of light is reached.

You sure about that?

It may get close to the speed of light but it wont reach it.

I know, a very fat bloke down the pub explained it all.:thumbup1:

I heard from a friend, who may be wrong, that recent tests involving the large hadron collider (spelling?) had anomalies in the results suggesting particles travelled faster than the speed of light  I'm far from a physicist, but if this turns out to be true, it could debunk the theory, and many other...

The methodology of the experiment was heavily questioned. At a recent physics seminar at Oxford University the question was asked 'do you believe that the experiment revealed the presence of particles that travel faster than light?'

One person put their hand up.

Doesn't prove anything but the relevant scientific community is highly cynical.

because life makes oxygen.

In our world & understanding anyway.... could be something entirely different out ther.... :confused1:

Uuuurrrrr.... I need a lie down....

Oh, and I think the sun-laser-powered-sailing-space-ship is just about the coolest thing I've ever heard.... :thumbup1::biggrin:
