The right of people to collect wood from Britain’s forests that was created under the Magna Carta has been overturned due to health and safety fears.

read the whole thing here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/3264458/Forestry-Commission-scraps-Magna-Carta-right-to-collect-woods-from-forests.html

I was under the impression that; if rights that were granted under Magna Carta were impinged, that in itself was 'unlawful', and could only be enforced if the party concerned consented to the new law.

Maybe a mass wood collection would be an idea?

Sod that- the FC has not turned a decent profit since it got its charter, they are useless, on our tax money too. Anyway-take what wood you like -just say 'Khriss sorted it with the office' I'll take the flak- lol

Just found this on another Forum-

"Forestry chiefs cannot make law, and by 'overruling' Magna Carta they

have assumed the duties of Parliament.

If a right can be altered or removed it is then a privilege,

and not a right.

A right granted under Magna Carta cannot be usurped by Parliament,

as the Magna Carta was one of the documents that gave rise to Parliament.

The Magna Carta is still on the statute books.

Challenge the Forestry chiefs.

I'd carry on collecting the wood,

and challenge them to take it to court!

A right is a right, and is peremptory in UK law!

A right is a right! Full stop! No arguments! End of! "

what a load of crap, health and safety what a load of rot, the FC just want to make more money so by issuing licences to local firewood suppliers they can ramp up the prices and stop issuing to the commen man. somehow I don't think it will stop people picking up firewood it'll just drive it underground.

There is a certain flavour to the political underbelly of this protest - and I for one think its unproductive and negative.

Its for the courts to decide on the legality of the policy, not armchair posturing.

Maybe - but the sentiment expressed is valid.

Why is it in a time when fuel is becoming vastly more expensive, does the Commision feel that it is a time to stop giving out licences?

Does the governments drive towards carbon nuetral emmisions and energy renewables only apply to big business? Does the individuals efforts not count?

Let us not forget that our Woodlands are publicly owned - it is not the private estate the FC treats it as.

And for the record, since its inception, the FC has an unblemished record of being unable to find its own arse without a map. Its mismangement of public forests is the butt of jokes among foresters right accros europe.

Your far too "proper" Antonio, be a rebel, let your hair down, grab a flag and let go protest :001_tongue:
