I have never had much luck with oak in our wood burner seems to get half way turn black and sit there in the way. Do others find the same ? I am sure its extremely dry as it was even dead standing. The ash and beech tonight bright and mega hot just diappointed in the oak.

I'd still say has got a bit of water in it.... even if something is dead standing it just does not lose much water out the trunk... I've milled oak that has been dead, fallen over in a field for 20 years and still moist timber inside.

I will give these ideas a go could still be damp in the middle will chop and measure tommorrow. If I open the vents on the stove we seem to loose heat up the chimney. If its damp will save for next year. I like your web site rob learnt a couple of things this afternoon. :001_smile:
