Land Rover defender would you buy one.?

We have 2 in work, both are in the shop as I type. Drive like a dog and don't do anything the 3 Landcruisers won't do. One of the Landcruisers has 300k miles on the clock and has only been in to be serviced in the last 2 years that I've known the vehicle. Zero repairs needed.

Landrover drives like a dog, has the turning circle of a bus, and I reckon those "good" ones are pretty rare. Landcruiser or Hilux, comfortable to drive, and keep the rain out, and can do a 3 point turn! Parts are cheap for a Landrover, but a Landcruiser is unlikely to need any.

Just another opinion than the "Landrover appreciation club". Wanted to like Defenders until I actually drove them.

Stopping making them soon and new version will no longer have a removable chassis. Worth considering the Santana Iveco version with a nice reliable diesel engine and bodywork fixed to the chassis like the Mercedes GD.

Most reliable LR was the Series 2A. When LR produced the Series 3 the Australians moved to the Land Cruisers and never looked back.

I have had the Jap stuff and two Landys.

I ended up with a Land rover as about 10yrs ago I wanted a pickup that could legally tow 3500kgs, the Jap stuff didn't do it and landcruisers and fourtracks are non existent in pickup form. (yes i know there is the odd one about)

I know own my own 130 and drive a 110 everyday at work, my 130 is pretty well behaved as Chris say's regular oil changes are good, I service every 6months regardless of milage, preventative maintenance is better than expensive repairs.

I find that most people who moan about LR's drive them on a work fleet, and yep ours at work suffer their fair share of breakdowns but they have a different driver every day, are flogged to death on the way home at night, the animals pull off in high box up death valley with a 3ton pump on the back etc etc but at the end of the day they are bought because there isn't another vehicle made that ticks the boxes that land rover defender does.

Tow's well

Very easy body modifications

PTO capability off the transfer box

At the end of the day I see a land rover as any other piece of kit/plant abuse it expect the bills look after it and it'll serve you well

Good for the ozzys! NOT. For me a landy is the dogs bollocks and that's all that matters to me.

Me and the Mrs often have a play in the mud with our old one, we do a few winch competitions. You will note I do the technical stuff and she has all fun of running about in the mud getting cold and wet

I ran a SWB 2A for 10 years with much towing and weekend trials and then a 101GS. Simple and basic to mend but do need much maintenance when worked hard. I could never understand how the 90's can tow 3.500KG and all different makes of 4x4 some which weighed more could not legally.

Should have made them with axle locks.
