Rope Wrench feedback

Recommended Posts

First full srt reduction using a zk1 with soft tether, will get a zk2 very soon.

Firstly were have you been all my life what a reduction tool srt is. Using redirects to help positioning and better anchoe points. Feel like ive found my srt brain. Eminating penderlum swing is one of my favorite parts, allows me to more around tips faster with less worry.

Arran, now you've found your srt brain, what part of climbing thinking has changed the most?

Thinking one step ahead of each move so i can create the most effective route around the tree (reduction ) using redirects. Also using redirects near were im cutting so i have 0% chance of penderlum swing, on really big limb which is so much more comfortable and safe, also allows for better positioning. Will get climbing pictures in the future.

Is awesomeee

Sounds great chap! I've got a RW but don't use it all the time. I love the fact of no added friction, but hate the fact I keep getting my gloves caught in the pulley.....I dread the though of my finger going through it haha!!! As I don't use it all the time I think I'm still climbing like I'm on Drt!

I know what you mean, i look forward to gettin my head around smaller/ medium reduction. I topped a conifer hedge yestersdat where each tree i could get a good top anchor, worked from the top down skinning up the pole as no room to knock lumps out then free climbing back up with my chest harness clipped in so it selftends. So much less rope to deal with as apposed to drt

  • 3 months later...

So after 2 weeks of reading and over 2100 posts I have finally finished reading this thread. I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions as I have used many of the tips and tricks whilst climbing over the last couple of weeks. I've been using the RW for the last few months but have found SRTWP so much easier lately. A big thanks to Ian for the thread and Kevin for the rope wrench

Nice one Luke 👍. Which tips do you think have helped your progression the most? Any hallelujah moments?

I think the biggest 2 have been the redirects and tie in points. I'm still swapping between a base anchor and tip at the top, preferring the top tip as there is less creep and sit back in the system. Latest one was when I realised I don't have to take the pin out to remove the rope. I found I've had the pin in backwards since I bought it. I had a few tries at LOTS to advance the RW and hitch but just couldn't find it comfortable. I found connecting my hand ascender/foot loop to the middle hole on the hitchclimber the easiest for me. Next step is experimenting with tethers I think.
