Rope Wrench feedback

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this has been covered before but -

Two things strike me when looking at the rope wrench (ZK1)

1) thats not alot of metal

2) 'not for primary life support'

Investigation has led me to believe that it is an all stainless non hardened construction and there fore is essentially two plates, three bolts + nuts and some spacers.

which led me to my next thought-

Like hell am I paying ninety quid for that!!

So before I disappear into the shed to drill and sculpt I would like to know from people who have used it whether or not it has been hardened and roughly what sort of thickness the plate is?

It will not be used in a 'legal working environment' so posting a reply about the various ins and outs of that is a bit of a waste of time.

Thanks guys

P.s brilliant forum, can see the select peoples who really know their stuff!

Why does "not for primary life support" strike you when you look at it mate?

what youve got to remember is that your not just paying for bits of metal and bolts. your paying for the concept, the idea, the countless variations that were made before coming to this final design. Its like saying a petzl helmet is expensive as its only a few bits of plastic and webbing.

Its a cool design.

There are some vids kicking around of Kevin Bingham (the inventor) playing around with the original RW which was a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it.

Make your own if it works mate, no worries.

I can make home brew for 40p/pint but I still go to the boozer and pay £3.50 now and then.

Cheers Adam, nice work on your rigging thread btw, an excellent compilation of the knowledge on here :)

It makes me think that it does not have to undergo expensive heat treatment processes like krabs do, there for they must be pretty straight forward to manufacture.

Its pretty simple looking, few minutes on a lathe and a pillar drill, bit of hand fitting and thats about £70 saved!

I just wanted to run it past some one who'd got to grips with the device.

Drew - The concept, the idea, is free man, your just paying for someone else to make it then two middle men to sell it to you.

Mark - Love homebrew ;) Yeah found that pic after I posted, done deal, Im off down the metal stores!
