you ideally want the tether to be long enough so that if the RW inverts it still wont push down on the top of the hitch. adding a blue bandit or similar onto the tether where it attaches onto the RW helps with limiting the ability of it to invert.

So you consider 35cm to be long enough? Too long? Or not long enough? I understand what you mean about inverting now, i think! If it did and pushed down on your hitch, then you'd drop like a brick!?

I have a short tether it leaves a gap of about a inch when In descent mode between the hitch and rw there isn't a possible way the rw can invert with such a small gap it's more than likely to invert with a bigger gap, I see what drew is saying tho there is a certain length tether that could be dangerous all dependant on your hitch length and tether. Here's a pic of my set upImageUploadedByTapatalk1354653629.870111.jpg.bbbc402c1bb3ca414b82d59e2f43033b.jpg, as you can see my set up is nice and tight and iv had no problems, I like it this way I don't need to set the rw I just sit back to engage the rw.

hence why an lj works better, doesn't run the same risk if it inverts. when having it attached to my ascenders i encourage it to invert because the rope runs more freely through it. i've had my ascenders pop off in this scenario and it still grabs quickly. so yes tether length definitely depends on what your climbing on. the new tethers seem very long. but i do need to stiffen mine
